ACTOR Nathaniel Parker paid a surprise visit to Miserden Primary School where he watched pupils perform in a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Best known on TV as Inspector Lynley, the actor turned up to open the outdoor performance to the delight of children, parents and staff.

Parker, an Olivier Award winner, said the production brought back memories of performing in the famous Shakespeare play.He said: "The evening completely swept away the drizzly, wet English summer.

"The performances sparked and fizzled with life and reminded me of when I was in the play at the RSC.

"Impossible to single out any single child because they all danced and spoke with such glorious energy."A pleasure to behold and I hope the school is able to do another next year."

Mrs Jacqui Sollars, head teacher, said she was extremely proud of the children.

She added: "They thoroughly enjoyed, understood and embraced the ambitious play and the grasp of the language was wonderful to see and hear."

All the pupils played an important part, whether it was acting or dancing, and our staff and helpers did a fabulous job of putting it all together.

"It was a great evening."
